Strength training, also known as resistance training, weight training, or muscle-strengthening activity, is probably the most neglected component of fitness programs but one of the most beneficial. In fact, it’s so beneficial that the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Heart Association, and the 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans recommend that adults engage in strength training at least twice a week, to improve muscle strength and endurance.
