Based on the basics of underwater welding contained in this report on a research program for three years, entitled "Basic research on underwater welding." In this course, techniques improve underwater welding operations carried out recently. And a full understanding of the phenomena underwater welding relatively limited to some expectations collected from bubble dynamics, heat transfer mechanisms and conditions of welding degrees. It is well known that the flow of molten thicker must be covered at all times to reduce the cooling effect during the welding process under the water. It is presented some observations and interpretations of this phenomenon through microscopic investigation seams under water in this report. There are currently two approaches to quality improvements at the seams under the water. One such approach is the development and improvement of the pole that meets the requirements for welding under water in wet conditions. And the other, is to eliminate the wet conditions across the bow area through direct shielding. Finally, three possible ways to achieve the direct display shielding in the final section of the report.

Friction stir welding (FSW) is a new and promising welding process that can produce low-cost and high-quality joints of heat-treatable aluminum alloys because it does not need consumable filler materials and can eliminate some welding defects such as crack and porosity. In order to demonstrate the friction stir weldability of the 2017-T351 aluminum alloy and determine optimum welding parameters, the relations between welding parameters and tensile properties of the joints have been studied in this paper. The experimental results showed that the tensile properties and fracture locations of the joints are significantly affected by the welding process parameters.
